Social Program

Besides the academic program, there will be a social program open to all participants and their partners. A welcome evening (in casual dress) for arriving participants will take place on Sunday, August 14th (at Campus Westend, Casino Building). On the first evening of the academic program (Monday August 15th), the City of Frankfurt will welcome participants at City Hall or at St. Paul's Church. On Wednesday afternoon and early evening, there will be an extended sightseeing excursion, either to the historic city of Heidelberg.On Thursday evening, participants are invited to a chamber music concert. The traditional farewell dinner will take place on Friday evening.

All participants will be given a week's pass for public transport and, additionally, a museum pass for all museums of town, from the birthplace of Goethe (Goethehaus) to the "Städel" Art Museum - including museums in the neighborhood of the city, such as the Leather Museum of Offenbach. This will provide participants with occasion to get to know the many cultural facilities of the Frankfurt. The architectural attractions and the fine landscape of the of the city and its environs may also be seen on  river boat tours.

After the academic program (Monday through Friday), participants may enjoy a sightseeing program on Saturday (at reduced cost). Options include a visit to the picturesque Rhine valley, and to the vineyards of the Rheingau (where Riesling is grown); excursion to the Saalburg, the most completely reconstructed Roman fort in Germany (belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage); visit the world famous medieval city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
